A man was arrested today in his home on the third floor of the thanr-roan-phar-shops, police said.
Tina Lavin, 45, of Queensville, pleaded guilty to criminal charges of conspiracy to sell, distribute and supply a controlled substance, and money laundering. She also pleaded guilty to operating a business and importing and selling drugs with intent to defraud the United States.
The investigation into Lavin’s arrest comes as the U. S. Food and Drug Administration has been investigating a number of drug counterfeiting and trafficking businesses, officials said.
The U. Food and Drug Administration website said Lavin worked for an organization known as “Big Pharma” that was in charge of dealing in the sale of prescription drugs such as Viagra and Cialis.
“We were interested in investigating the activity of Big Pharma in connection to the sale of Viagra and Cialis,” said Dr. David S. Hoey, assistant director of FDA’s Office of Criminal Investigations in New York City.
Lavin was arrested at the same time and charged with two counts of selling and supplying controlled substances with intent to defraud the United States and importing and distributing controlled substances.
According to the Food and Drug Administration website, an investigation into Lavin’s arrest comes after officials seized two of her Viagra pills, which were distributed by Big Pharma.
“We were concerned about the quality of Viagra and its effect on the user,” said Hoey. “We were concerned about how the drugs could be made available to customers in the U. S., so we wanted to see if there were any adverse effects on the user.”
According to the FDA website, an investigation into the distribution and sale of Viagra and Cialis will be conducted by the U. Food and Drug Administration, and the agency will review the case.
“The FDA will conduct a thorough investigation to determine if there is a serious potential for harm to the public and to advise the public to be vigilant in any direction,” said Dr. Hoey, assistant director of the FDA Office of Criminal Investigations in New York City.
The investigation into Lavin’s arrest comes after an investigation into drug counterfeiters in New York City, which was also led by Pfizer, the agency said.“We are very concerned about the quality of counterfeit drugs,” said Hoey. “We are concerned about the way the U. drug trade is going to change in the coming years, which will ultimately affect the overall health of our nation.”
According to the FDA website, the drugs that Lavin sold were used to make and dispense prescription drugs.
She purchased the drugs at an address in Queensville, New York, with the intention of getting them delivered and filled in the pharmacy.
She was arrested on May 15 after an investigation into Lavin’s arrest was conducted, the FDA said.
